Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi
Sundowns will target
another three points when they host Jomo Cosmos at the Loftus Stadium
on
Sunday, kick-off at 15h30.
Sundowns extended their lead at
the head of the table to
five points with a 1-0 away win over AmaZulu in midweek. The Tshwane
team have
a decent home record so far this season with four wins, one draw and
two losses
from seven matches.
New Sundowns recruit
Antony
Laffor says he is very excited at the prospect of playing against his
former
employer but says it will be a tough battle for ‘Bafana Ba Style’,
considering
that Cosmos are fighting for survival in the Premier League.
“Cosmos are not a bad
side
at all and the fact that they are fighting for survival will make them
even
more dangerous, but I know that with the quality we have in our team,
we can
overcome them. I know Bra Jomo since I have played under him before and
I know
how he will treat this match, for the first 20 minutes he will make
sure his
team comes hard at us” said Laffor.
The lanky Liberian
midfielder
added that the log leaders have to focus on their strengths and on
getting
maximum points.
Laffor played his
first
match for ‘The Brazilians’ against Amazulu and was warmly welcomed by
the
Sundowns faithful.
“From the first day I
walked
into Chloorkop I felt right at home and when the supporters received me
as well
as they did it felt even more special for me and made me want to do
well in
front of them. I know part of my job is to score goals but creating
goals for
my teammates is as important and that is something we work on at
training”
added the Sundowns number 28.
The Brazilians are placed first on
the Absa Premiership
log with 34 points from 16 matches, while Ezenkosi are placed 15th
on the Absa Premiership log with 10 points from 16 matches.
In head-to-head stats, Sundowns
and Cosmos have met in 47
league matches since 1985 and ‘The Brazilians’ have 18 wins to their
name
compared to Ezenkosi’s 14, with 15 ending in draws.
‘Downs have won 10 of their 23
home games against Cosmos,
with seven draws and six losses thrown into the mix.
When the teams met earlier this
season, the Brazilians
claimed a 2-0 win, thanks to goals from Mphela and Pelembe.
